Anchorage Hotel Options
We have rooms at the Hotel Captain Cook for Friday night, July 2 covered under our cruise fare and booked through Princess. Captain Cook is sold out for Thursday night, July 1 and is $434 per night when available. It’s possible that Princess has a room block and Sherry could get us rooms but it would be at the $434 rate per room.
Here are options to consider:
Downtown Hotels - limited availability and those with availability are $380 and up. There are rooms at Snob Hollow Inn for $165 but they have shared bathrooms and it’s a 2-star hotel.
Hotels in other areas of Anchorage - there are hotels in Midtown and near the airport.
Motel 6 Midtown - $283
Wyndham Garden Airport - $287
Baymont Inn Airport - $244
You may find others cheaper
4 bedroom Vrbo’s - I have found some with 1 night stays that range from $670-$996 per night, including all taxes and fees. That’s $168-$249 per couple.
Midtown 4 bedroom - $670 total. $168 per couple. https://vrbo.onelink.me/ItNz/qz6mjlet
Airport area 4 bedroom - $996 total. $249 per couple. https://vrbo.onelink.me/ItNz/91cxiz1w
Lake View 4 bedroom - $983 total. $246 per couple. https://vrbo.onelink.me/ItNz/px0zeghr
How do we get from the Airport to where we stay?
We would arrange for ground transportation from the airport to where we stay. It’s possible Princess will cover this, even though we are coming in a day earlier (TBD). We would take Uber/Lyft to get anywhere we need to go on Thursday evening. The savings if we use the Vrbo option will more than pay for rides. DTA can arrange ground transportation once we have a plan.
What does Friday look like?
We would schedule Uber or a car service to take us to Hotel Captain Cook on Friday morning around 8:00 am. We would have the hotel hold our luggage while we go out on our tour. The tour operator would pick us up at Hotel Captain Cook which is one of their normal pickup sites. We go on our tour which runs until early Friday afternoon and then get dropped back at Hotel Captain Cook where it should be close to check-in time. DTA can arrange ground transportation once we have a plan.
Should we wait and just fly to Anchorage on Friday?
Sure, that is an option and you should pick what’s best for you. Know that airfares on Friday may be more expensive than Thursday. It is a holiday weekend. As of Oct 21, Alaska fares were the same whether you fly Thursday or Friday. Delta is $250 more per person on Friday. Flying on Friday would mean missing the Anchorage tour, but that is an option. It also means that if you have flight issues, you risk missing the Saturday departure to Denali.
What does everyone think? The DeTamples still plan to fly on Thursday. Share your plans so we can adjust the Vrbo search based on how many couples need a place to stay on Thursday night.
